O&A Florensky

OLGA and ALEXANDER FLORENSKY are artists from St Petersburg working in different fields of art: painting, graphics, book illustration, sculpture, ceramics and animation. Their work is admired not only for evoking the ethos of the ‘common man’ but also for their marked clarity of artistic language. They have been particularly influential in St Petersburg, no doubt because of the strongly urban focus of their works, which speak directly to a city dweller about the experiences of metropolitan life.

They are one of the founders of Mit’ki, the non-conforming artists group, which upset the establishment by challenging the then Soviet system during the years leading up to Perestroika. Since 1994 Olga and Alexander FLORENSKY have been working together on big joint projects (Movement Towards Iye, Moveable Bestiary, Local Time, Russian Trophy, Russian Patent, Universal Museum Of Wilhelm Winter, etc.). Their work can be found in museum collections from Moscow to London to Washington.
